Description
This session is part of the Non-Opioid Module of the Pain Management Certification, which explores diverse pain management treatment plans involving treatments other than prescription opioids during the opioid crisis. This session first reviews the common neurotransmitters of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which factor into the mechanisms of action for adjuvant antidepressant pain medications. This session will also discuss how to select an appropriate adjuvant antidepressant medication for the management of pain for a given patient with respect to pain management efficacy and anticipated side effects.
