Prevention of HIV transmission is a national goal for the US. In patients looking to prevent acquisition of HIV, the use of preexposure prophylaxis has proven safe and effective, as long as it is taken as prescribed. In 2017, 38,739 patients managed to acquire HIV (an increase from 2016). Pharmacists have the potential to be at the forefront of preventing HIV and providing patients with tools on how to limit their risk. This session explores the intricacies of PrEP for the prevention of HIV while meeting the Florida-specific requirements for professional education programming on the topics of HIV and AIDS.
