The employment landscape for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians is rapidly changing. While employment of pharmacists is projected to decline 3% from 2019 to 2020, employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 4% in the same period. But having a job is not the end of the story. Surveys of pharmacists and technicians reveal that job satisfaction is down, while frustration and burnout are high. Many pharmacists and technicians express interest in finding alternative ways to use their knowledge and training to make a difference, and interest in non-traditional careers is growing. This session will explore trends in the pharmacy job market and illuminate the issue of job satisfaction and the impact of burnout on the pharmacy workforce. This roundtable discussion will also provide the opportunity to explore alternative pathways to employment for pharmacy professionals.
