Description

The CDC estimates that 30-50% of chronic disease state treatments failures are caused by medication non-adherence. Medication non-adherence is a major problem, and about 50% of the time, medications are not taken as prescribed. The success of medication therapy is dependent on the patient taking the right medication at the right time. Chronotherapy ensures medication is administered at the appropriate time to provide better disease state control and minimize side effects. This program seeks to help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians be able to counsel their patients on the best time to take their medications to obtain the maximum benefit.

“Take once a day,” “Take twice a day,” “Take on an empty stomach,” “Take in the evening,” “Take at bedtime.” These are all directions of prescriptions pharmacists dispense daily. Do our patients know what these mean in their daily routine? Are they taking their medications as prescribed i.e., as per directions on the bottle, daily and at the correct time? Are their medications working as they should be? Is there a better time to take their medications for best results? These are the questions we will help address with this program.
