This session is part of the Opioid Module, which explores the safe and effective utilization of prescription opioids within diverse pain management treatment plans during the opioid crisis. This session seeks to explore appropriate patient recommendations regarding opioid interactions using both the pharmacological aspects, including enzymes and transporters, QTc interval changes, and overlapping serotonergic effects; and patient diversity aspects including pharmacogenomics, gender, and age. This session will also review the powerful impact drug-drug sedative interactions have on the increased risk of adverse effects such as general patient harm, additive sedation, and overdose.
